4 Suggestions To Help Seniors Prevent Isolation This Summer

Adult-Daughter-Comforting-Mom-LR.jpgFor most people, summer is the time for tons of fun in the sun. However, many seniors have to deal with diminished energy and increased sensitivity to heat. But that does not mean that you have to spend this season isolated at home. Here are 4 ways that you can fully enjoy this summer season as well as the rest of the year.

  1. If you have been considering joining the local senior center, or just haven't been lately, now is a great time to take part. Every activity is designed with you in mind, so you don't have to worry that it will take up too much of your time and energy. And many programs provide transportation and free or low-cost meals.
  2. Invite some loved ones over for a social visit. Family members and friends might have grown accustomed to coming to your place to help you with your daily activities. But plan a date when you and those you care for can simply enjoy each other's company and leave the chores for later.
  3. Have the grandchildren over for a play date. Have Mom or Dad drop them off for some quality time with you. You can play games, watch movies, show them some photos, or enjoy some arts and crafts.
  4. Take a senior exercise class at the gym. With most Medicare plans, you can join a number of gyms for free. If your doctor allows it, have fun doing strength training, water aerobics, or other activities with other seniors. You can have fun and improve your health at the same time.

If you think about it, there are many things you can do to beat the heat as you enjoy the summer like everyone else. These ideas are also great to help you avoid isolation all year long.
